The existing focus reaction task uses a Flanker-style mechanism, so this page keeps the established /focus-reaction-test/ address and names the task accurately instead of creating a duplicate /flanker-test/ page.

This browser implementation is a practice and demonstration task. Its condition difference is not an intelligence score, diagnostic marker, or standardized clinical result.

Congruent, Incongruent, and Neutral Trials

The center arrow is always the target. On congruent trials, flankers point in the same direction. On incongruent trials, flankers point in the opposite direction. Neutral trials use dashes beside the target. Left and right targets are balanced through seeded trial generation.

Use the left and right arrow keys or the visible touch buttons. A trial allows one response and times out after 2.2 seconds. Practice gives a slightly longer correctness message; the standard block moves on more quickly.

Flanker Accuracy and Median Response Time

Overall accuracy is correct responses divided by all completed or missed trials. The result then repeats that calculation separately for congruent, incongruent, and neutral trials. Median response time uses only correct responses in the relevant condition.

Flanker interference on this page equals median correct incongruent response time minus median correct congruent response time. A positive value means incongruent correct responses were slower in this session; the number does not explain why and has no clinical cutoff.

Validity Flags and Comparable Blocks

Responses under 150 milliseconds receive an anticipatory-response flag, unanswered trials receive a missed-trial flag, and hiding the page during a stimulus receives a focus-interruption flag. These events are not silently removed to make the result look cleaner.

Compare blocks with the same practice or standard mode, trial count, device, display, input method, and surroundings. Repetition can change familiarity with the arrow rule, so several recent matching blocks are more informative than one run.

Limits of the Online Flanker Test

Professional research and clinical tasks may use controlled hardware, different stimuli, calibrated timing, more trials, counterbalancing, and normative procedures. This page does not reproduce those conditions and should not borrow conclusions from them.

Use the result to understand this task's response conflict and for personal comparison. Do not infer intelligence, neurological function, ADHD, stress, fatigue, or general cognitive control from one block.

Local Flanker History

Completed blocks store settings, condition-level aggregates, timestamps, and validity flags in the versioned browser session schema. Per-key browsing outside the task and personal identifiers are not recorded.

The page lets you clear Flanker history while leaving other tools untouched. General site analytics remain a separate data stream described in the privacy policy.
